How about the memorial? When all the newbies & interested people are there? Same thing as overseers visit- people showing up early- putting on quite the show. What a crock! My mother is queen bee of it all. I did get talked into going to the memorial this year- and I saw it all over again- it was really pathetic! Same thing with conventions- everyone smiling, all happy, shaking hands- blah blah blah. Real hard to see when you're like 15- critical anyway- then see through everyone. Did I say what a crock yet? :-)

Phoney Baloney
by Perfection Seeker inone of my biggest pet peeves of being a witness was when the overseer would come visit, and everyone was sooo nice, sweet to everyone, no clicks, they'd arrive early, stay after & talk, everyone would raise their hands, give "heartfelt" answers, looked nice, sang loud, just the model congregation.
yet, when the overseer wasnt there, people would come late, leave early, not be nice to everyone, blah blah.
i guess to me- if they knew what they "should" be doing, why not do it all the time?

I asked an elder this once- I said I almost didn't want to come during an overseers visit, cause it was so phoney- I didn't recognize anyone. He said- well, when you have company at your house- don't you set the best dishes, have excellent food, dress nice- kind of "do up" for company? Thats what we do with the CO comes.
I can handle alot- but not double standards & hypocrisy.
Anyone with similar "phoney baloney" stories?

How to get reinstated

If you are going back in name only- just to get label off, and aren't trying to be a good witness- my advice to you: Lie Lie Lie. I wanted to get reinstated so my family could talk to me. I said I pray more than ever, read the bible, do research, life was meaningless w/out Jehovah, the friend & family- and how I would NEVER do anything to displease Jehovah again. I said I learned from my mistake, and would NEVER do it again, and that I crave the association, and that I truly felt Jehovah had already forgiven me, it was just a matter of getting the elders to know & see I was repentent. Then, I asked if I could get a bible study, to help strengthen me up again. They said SURE! Course, I just never did get around to scheduling that.... :-) GOOD LUCK!

Why don't you just leave?
by beroea inmany still inside facing all the wrongdoings and still go on to the meetings, keep preaching the good news from door-to door and all the duties of the normal jv lives.
are you one of those - or were - that for a long time, what really what made you stay even coming to the point of no-believe in the chronology and the gb?
there were at time of facing the truth of the truth.

For me- my parents started studying when I was 5- so I was automatically "in". I stopped believing years ago, but continued to be a JW bystander- just so I could have the "luxury" of seeing my family & friends, and not being shunned. I was disfellowshipped- moved in with my husband about a year before we got married. I wanted to get back reinstated so I could talk to my family. Now, I refuse to go to meetings & be battered with all that guilt. I just took everything as gospel- that was how everyone viewed the bible, etc- then I opened my eyes & did my own research, and I truly believe that the WTS is not the ONLY link to Jehovah.
Some people stay in out of fear, or family/friends obligations, or not knowing life outside.Noone can force another person in or out- everything must come when its right for YOU.

Lots of Jehovah Bashing in Here
by Perfection Seeker ini think when people leave the organization, they lump it all together- jehovah- religion, organization, etc.
i am not doubtful there is a god, but just doubtful that he used the wts to be his one & only means.
just wanted to say that.

I said this before, and maybe I didn't get my point across well, might not this time, either, but I guess if I have hope that there is a God- and I want to please him, and be greatful for his graces, and my life, then I live my life differently, knowing when I die- this life was for a purpose. If I don't believe in God, and think this life is all there is- well, there is ALOT of good, but alot of bad. If there is no life after this one, ... well, I guess accumulating riches, fame & fortune, friends, family- it just doesn't make sense in my mind- unless there is a reason BEYOND this life.
Go easy on me. I'm not even officially out of the clutches of the organization. Every day- I get healed and a little further in my progress, but just like I've said before- I have NO intentions of trying to get my family out- it works for them- and they are happy. In the same way, I NEED to believe there is a God, for me, for now-Thanks everyone!

No Future
by Perfection Seeker ini think it is sad how witnesses don't think future.
they don't save for a rainy day, don't plan for retirement, don't get higher education, alot are overweight, thinking why bother, don't worry about their health, etc.
and, have you notice, they almost try to get people to have low self esteem?

I was fat & helpless in the organization, that is how my parents wanted me. I am not fat or helpless now, have gone to college, and am very happy. Yes, alot of people are overweight in this country- I just mean for witnesses, they seem to think it doesn't matter- cause you don't want to look good, and have people look at you, plus the end is coming, blah blah blah. I shouldn't have said that about the overweight thing, but in my hall- it was a big deal! In fact, skinny people studied, became witnesses & got fat. Its like the motivation to care or of your appearance changes. No big mac in my hand- but you have a right to say that- no problem! :-) Can't figure out how to post a picture, or I would- might even go get a big mac for the picture :-)

No birthdays- because that focuses on you, no clapping for reinstatements, no parties for reinstatements or babtism. You'd think getting babtized or reinstated would be cause for rejoicing. "Even the angels rejoice at a sinner that repents" Or whatever that is- been awhile-lol.When I was "in" they had me fat, uneducated, such low self esteem & sense of worth, and feeling like I couldn't live without the organization.
In my congregation, there was ALOT of overweight people, like very overweight- 300- 500 pounds- and you'd think since they take the bible so literal- they'd believe the gluttony is a sin thing, but I guess not.
Anyone have comments, or similar feelings?
